Silkscreen Printmaking
For an elective, I had the opportunity to learn how to print silkscreen. The process was challenging and different then working in digital art. I learned a lot about design, art and the history of printmaking. The process required a lot of patience and working through mistakes. I hope to use silkscreen printmaking in my future projects.
John Muir Project
For this project I used three layers to create a print. The first layer was a bitmap of my photograph from a hike in the mountains. On top of the layer I placed a quote from John Muir. The last layer was a cutout from a design of the sun. Throughout the project, I used different color inks and paper.
Mono Registration Project
To start the printmaking process, I familiarized myself with the silkscreen printmaking process. I used acetate paper to draw the circle designs and used a rotating registration to print.
Gasworks Project
For this project I was inspired by my photographs from Gasworks Parks in Seattle, WA. The park is a former gas light plant and are represented by the two buildings. In the background I chose rocks to create texture. I used two color schemes to print the same registration.
Wallpaper Project
I created a pattern to install on the wall in the Pao Visual Art building on Purdue University’s campus. I wanted to create a design representing Audrey Hepburn and her inspiring fashion during the movie Breakfast at Tiffanys.
Data Visualization
For the final project, I created a data visualization of tracking my weekend steps. I used my phone to track how many steps I completed over the weekend of my university’s dance marathon. Each circle represents an hour. If its small I walked less steps and if its big I walked more steps within the hour.
